Customizing a Lamp/Commission

This was a fun project and a challenging project

Had to make several prototypes before getting the placement correct for the extenders-holes and structural stability, a lot of engineering and patience went into this project. The machine shop made all my extenders. I created  a custom mold for the wave and did  bead blasting and etching.  One more panel to Go! Each panel has 2 firings.

Martin Rosol – Cold working

Every since I started going to Corning, N.Y. for glass classes I always come home changed. My head starts spinning with ideas and new challenges. Cold Working glass has become a new passion for me. Using solid blocks of glass I experimented with aspects of advanced cold working: grinding, polishing, the use of horizontal mill wheels and vertical lathes, and cutting with stone and diamond to create constructions from glass. We also worked with HXTAL gluing process to join our glass elements.

Martin Rosol:  instructor with Paul Novak (TA) both artist received further training in their native Czechoslovakia as  cold workers. Martin came to the U.S. in 1988 to further his career as a sculptor. Martins work has been exhibited throughout the United States and Europe. Martin lives in Massachusetts, where he maintains a glass studio.

Happy New Year!! 2011

Many of us celebrate  News Years Eve and New Years Day  in very different ways! I enjoy riding my bike. How fortunate I was to have Great weather both days and was able to get a few very good rides in. There is nothing like exhausting the body and cleansing the Head! Riding my bike gives me the freedom of heading in a direction that only my wheels can take me and my head leads me. I am always amazed how much better I feel  physically and mentally after my bike rides. It also offers me creativity with my work allowing my spirit to be free and my mind open. I am so Looking forward to the New Year with excitement and energy!

Bring it on 2011!!
